Crop Residue emissions and how to reduce them

A quick summary of why crop residues represent part of my emissions and how I can address it.

  1. Where do crop residue emissions come from?
Decomposition of crop residues can release carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide depending on the residue type and soil conditions.
  2. How can I reduce my crop residue emissions?
    • Retain residues on the soil surface as mulch.
    • Plant cover crops to sequester carbon and improve nitrogen use.
    • Use crop residues for biochar production.
