Minimum property size requirements for water quality and stacked soil carbon projects

To participate in a stacked project, your property needs to meet a minimum size threshold. This applies to the water quality credit component - the area needs to be large enough for the management changes to generate a measurable and verifiable improvement in ground cover and water quality at catchment scale.

Minimum size

The minimum property size for water quality credit participation is 1,000 hectares. Properties below this threshold may not viable for a water quality credit project under the current method.

The minimum size requirement for a soil carbon ACCU project with AgriProve is 300 hectares, though economic viability typically favours larger properties. AgriProve will advise on this during the initial property assessment.

What if my property is close to the threshold?

If your property is close to but below 1,000 hectares, or if you manage multiple adjacent or neighbouring properties, contact AgriProve or Verterra to discuss whether an aggregated project area could meet the threshold.

Key points

  • Minimum property size for water quality credit participation is 1,000 hectares.

  • The threshold applies to the water quality credit component, not the soil carbon project.

  • Properties near the threshold may be able to aggregate with adjacent holdings.
