Refrigerant leakage emissions and how to reduce them

A quick summary of why refrigerant leakage represents part of my emissions and how I can address it.

Where do refrigerant leakage emissions come from?

Refrigerants used in cool rooms and fridges can leak into the atmosphere over time. These refrigerants, particularly when they take the form of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), have a high global warming potential.

How can I reduce my refrigerant leakage emissions?

    • Ensure any refrigerated systems used for storing produce are maintained regularly and checked for leaks
    •  Ensure your recharge rate does not over- or under-charge your system, both of which may increase leakage
    •  Considering switching to a non-HFC refrigerant which has a lower global warming potential
