Once we have submitted you project application there is a wait of around 90 days before it is approved and you can start. Here is some ideas of how to use that time productively.
If you are not sure what declaration is ➡️ click here to read about it.
What should you be doing while you wait for your carbon project to be declared?
We recommend you spend this time setting yourself up for success in your carbon project going forwards. Here is some suggestions for things you can do next to help you hit the ground running when your project is approved:
1. Baseline Sampling Results Call
We will be in touch to schedule your first round of soil sampling soon. Once we have your results we will get on a call, go over your samples and answer any of your questions about your project going forwards. This may occur before or after declaration depending on sampling logistics and how long it takes to get the results from the lab.
2. The AgriProve Platform
Our online platform is a key way we communicate with you about your projects. You may have already signed up to get a soil carbon estimate before, however if you have not yet signed up please do so now. To access or create your account go to our website (agriprove.io) and click login or create account, and you can access it there. If you cannot see your projects in there, have questions or are having trouble navigating it - let us know and we can get it sorted out for you.
3. Setting up your record keeping
You need to keep records of what you do in your project. This record keeping is simple and can be hand written if you prefer. It is important though, that you keep these up to date and could easily find and piece together what happened in 5 years time. Random scattered notes wont be easy to collate and prove over multiple years. This is the time to set up a system and make sure you are collecting what you need. We can help you with this if you need, so please reach out.
4. Educate Yourself & Find Good Advice
We recommend that you educate yourself on the key principles of soil carbon and the practices that are going to maximise it. There is a lot of farming and grazing advise out there , but not all of it is focused on carbon sequestration, so learning about the fundamentals of carbon is essential to your success. A good place to start is Youtube such as the AgriProve Youtube channel, Carbon Cowboys, Walter Jehne, Christine Jones and Gabe Brown.
We also recommend that if you are going to work with an agronomist that you try to find one that is familiar with soil carbon farming or in addition to your current agronomist talk to someone who can advise you around carbon as well. This will help you make sure what you are doing aligns with sequestering carbon. At AgriProve we are not agronomists, but we do partner with people such as Lawrie Co and other advisors that we can connect you with.
5. Planning out your project activities
Now is a great time to plan out what you want to do in your project area. Think about where to start, what your priorities are, this years logistics and even think about what you want done in 5, 10 and 25 years of your project. If you aren't sure what you can do and how you are getting there, this is the best time to sit down and really think about the future and how you are going to maximise your carbon returns.
If you would like to talk to someone to ask questions, run your ideas by and help you plan this out - get in touch and we can schedule a time to talk.
If you do all of these these you will be ready to hit the ground running in your carbon project once it is declared.
📞We will be in touch to notify you of your projects declaration, but if you need anything in the mean time please dont hesitate to reach out.
