Manure Management emissions and how to reduce them

A quick summary of why manure management represents part of my emissions and how I can address it.

  1. Where do manure management emissions come from?
Methane (CH₄) is emitted from anaerobic decomposition in manure storage, while nitrous oxide results from nitrogen transformations during handling and spreading.
  2. How can I reduce my manure management emissions?
    • Compost manure under aerobic conditions to minimise methane release.
    • Cover effluent ponds to capture methane for energy generation.
    • Apply manure evenly across paddocks to improve nutrient distribution.
