ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) is a globally-recognised tick that says your grain is grown responsibly and can be traced through the chain - earning producers premiums on some crops and ensuring market access.
ISCC for Aussie grain growers
Turn your good practice into better prices and more buyers.
What is ISCC (in plain English)?
ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) is a globally-recognised tick that says your grain is grown responsibly and can be traced through the chain. There are two lanes most growers care about:
-
ISCC-EU – for grain/canola that ends up in EU biofuel supply chains.
-
ISCC-PLUS – for non-fuel markets (food, feed, chemicals, packaging) that want verified sustainable grain.
Why should I bother?
-
Real money on canola. Several buyers publish a $10/t premium for ISCC-declared canola (and have done so repeatedly) awb.com.au+1.
-
Barley & others: premiums are buyer/season dependent (e.g., CBH ran a $5/t ISCC-PLUS malting barley trial) cbh.com.au.
-
-
More doors open. ISCC is the “ticket to play” for EU biofuels and an easy yes for many maltsters, crushers and brands who ask for certified sustainable grain. Sustainable Grain Australia (SGA) and major bulk handlers explicitly position ISCC to grow these markets for WA/SA/VIC/NSW grain. Sustainable Grain Australia+2riverineplains.org.au+2

Easy admin. One online declaration, records you already keep, and an audit only when selected.
Side note: The EU biodiesel market has underpinned Australian canola exports for years and pays a premium because it’s certified sustainable. That’s the demand you’re tapping into. Australian Oilseeds Federation
What if I already have the ISCC Credential?
Go via: AgriProve Platform → Credentials → ISCC → 'I already have this credential' → Upload.
Simply upload your existing ISCC credential via the opportunity and we will attach it to your profile with all existing credentials .
How do I get set up? (10–15 minutes)
-
Start in AgriProve → Credentials → ISCC
We pre-check your eligibility and smert match the opportunity to your enterprise based on your profile set-up. -
Do the SGA Grower Sustainability Declaration (online in myNGR)
-
We link you to the SGA self-declaration where you: create an account, enter you farm information, and receive a declaration number.
-
Then you create an account on the National Grower Register (NGR) and submit the NGR → EDOCS to submit your SGA declaration once.
-
That number sits in your NGR record for participating traders to see. ngr.com.au
-
-
Keep the basics on file (for when you’re sampled for audit)
-
Paddock maps (pre/post-2008 imagery if you have it), input invoices, spray/fert logs, harvest yields, delivery dockets that link loads ↔ paddocks.
-
If you want to go the extra mile on ISCC-EU: have simple activity totals (fuel, fertiliser, lime) and yields by crop.
-
SGA’s central office model keeps the process standardised for growers. riverineplains.org.au
-
What happens in AgriProve after I’m done?
-
Your ISCC badge shows on your profile.
-
Buyers searching for certified grain can find you faster.
-
We’ll:
-
Represent all of your farm credentials/accrediations in a single place
-
Facilitate the sharing of your whole farm profile to interested parties
- Quantify your farm emissions for free - for sharing, through the 'Farm Emissions' opportunity - for interested buyers
-
Quick eligibility self-check
-
No land cleared from forest/wetland/high-carbon areas since 1 Jan 2008.
-
You keep normal farm records (maps, invoices, spray/fert logs, yields, delivery dockets).
-
You’re happy to submit the SGA declaration in myNGR.
What crops does this cover?
Canola, wheat, barley, maize/corn, rye, oats, triticale, sorghum; , sunflower, soybean; plus some roots/forage (e.g., sugar beet) for specific markets. SGA notes strong demand for ISCC barley from maltsters, and ISCC-EU remains the key for canola into the EU biofuel market. Sustainable Grain Australia+1
Money talk (so you can set expectations)
-
Canola: public examples show ~$10/t uplift for ISCC-declared grades when buyers require it (check daily bids—some label it “EU grade”). Actual premium still moves with season and buyer. awb.com.au+1
-
Barley (malt) & other grains: premiums are case-by-case. One published trial paid $5/t on limited ISCC-PLUS malt volumes, and several traders indicate demand signals rather than fixed numbers. Ask your buyer on the day. cbh.com.au
Tip: If you’re using CGX or similar, list canola as EU/ISCC when eligible so buyers can bid accordingly. Blog CGX
