Year 4 & 5 of your Carbon Project

The fourth year of your carbon project is a key time for reporting and decision making. Here is everything you need to know and do in preparation:

What happens in year 4 and 5 of a carbon project?

To meet carbon project reporting requirements there is a list of things that need to be completed before the 5th anniversary of your projects base line sampling. (The start of the 5th year of your project). This means that year 4 is very important as it is when you will prepare everything you need to complete these activities and have them submitted to the Clean Energy Regulator before this deadline.

The key thing's that need to be done are:

1. Decisions around if the project will continue

If you are no longer interested in continuing your project this is the time to inform us and we will commence the process of revoking your project. What this will involve and the potential for penalties will differ from project to project, so please get in touch to discuss this if you do not wish to continue ASAP.

Please email your AgriProve contact or call 1300 GO SOIL to inform us if have questions or you do not wish to continue.

2. Resampling your Project

It is required for projects to be sampled twice before the 5 year reporting deadline. This means if we have not sampled your project since your baseline sampling, then we will need to complete a resampling now. We will also resample your project in preparation for this report if it is showing positive indicators and that carbon sequestration has been likely.

We will be in touch when it is time to do this.

3. Eligible Interest Holder Consent

We need you to have received consent from all eligible interest holders on your land before the 5-year reporting deadline. This is you, your bank if you have a mortgage, and others with interests on your land eg. powerline or telecommunications providers.

You may have already completed this previously as we try to get this finished earlier than the 5 year mark and it is done during the crediting process, however if you are unsure please email us to check if yours has been completed.

If you want to know more about this process click here to read our article on the EIH process.

3. An Audit of your Implementation

If you have you have not been audited already we must complete one at the 5 year mark. If you are credited before this deadline you will have already completed an audit and it does not need to be done again at this point. However, If you have not been credited previously it needs to be done at 5 years even if you have not measured an increase.

What this audit involves is:

- collecting your management records

- your emissions will be calculated

- a third party auditor will do an assessment of your implementation on farm.

Completing the EIH and Preparing for the audit by collating your records in year 4 is the key thing we need from you to make sure that your audit is successful and we get it in before the deadline.
